Phew! Luckily I don't have to source for the bootleg Death Note. I guess it's straightforward enough.
Well, in case you are wondering why I didn't catch the first one - it's because I kinda didn't like Tatsuya Fujiwara after I saw him in the horrid sequel of one of my favourite movies of all time - Battle Royale. The second Battle Royale was so bad I'm still shuddering at the thought of anyone letting me watch that all over again. Fujiwara looked cool when he was like 15 but when he turned 20 - he just looked plain annoying.
But upon hearing everyone rave about Death Note - I promptly booked Xiaomei to watch it with me.
The verdict? Well, if you've enjoyed the first one and you want to know the continuation, watch it. The film is not spectacular but it is not bad. It is not satisfying and great but it is not horrible.
The only thing that caught my eye was how Ken'ichi Matsuyama (L/Ryuzaki) is a spitting image of Jon Bon Jovi when he was young and starting out. Especially those lips.
I also remember the endless legs belonging to Takada (Nana Katase), the aspiring newscaster who inherited the second Death Note. She's not a looker but those legs..
I shall not reveal anything else, as usual, because I don't want to be biased when it comes to movies. It is entirely subjective and it also depends on the movie goer. My advice is to always not to have high expectations and remember, it's only a movie. But do not forget to enjoy and immerse yourself, if you want to.
You don't want to waste your money and time and not take back anything or feel nothing right...
