Daddy, Brother, Lover & Little Boy

Well, this is a review of sorts for the above which I recently bought.

So far, I have only seen one live concert by Search - the one they performed in KL a few years ago. I was about to compare the live performances by Search and Wings but I realised it's not fair cos I can't get my hands on anything from Search from the '90s, in terms of live concerts. Amy from Search is now like 50 years old man.

Of course, the comparison (if it happens) is going to be biased because I personally prefer Wings (Awie, Joe, Eddie and Black) but the concert compiled by Ali Bakar, their original manager who propelled them to legendary heights of success in the rock arena in this peninsula, is but a controversial one because he supposedly kept the recording for more than 15 years without releasing it due to his conflict with the band.

Touching on the concert - the energy of the performances (mostly from their album Teori Domino) is really high, with stellar performances by Awie who screamed and goaded the crowd like it was his last performance. He entertained, roused, charmed and teased the crowd like a demon, and his vocals were primal and raw and almost perfect, I feel.

Joe fingered his Ibanez like he was possessed and he swayed his trademark hip sway as if to hypnotize the crowd while Eddie provided solid backbone with his bass and admirable background vocals.

I still prefer Black as the drummer for his seemingly simple but impossible to execute drums but Jojet was ok. It would have been perfect if Black was behind the skins. I think it was the period when Awie had irreconcilable differences with Black and Black had problems with drugs that time.

The energy rush would have been really high if I was there 16 years ago in KL in this Wings concert, compared to just maybe singing along in a Search concert - so there you go. Hee hee...

The set of two VCDs consists of a VCD with the live concert and another featuring behind the scenes - including their antics and interview in a hotel room in Singapore.

Available for about S$20 (only got VCD no DVD.. sigh) from Muzika Records and some good record stores who cater to people like me who like the nostalgia (we just don't want to let go of the past! hahahaha!!) - like the one in Queensway owned by the affable Chinese old couple on the 2nd floor, and the one with the sweet looking auntie in Jurong East Central (That's Music or something like that) - go get it now if you are a Wings fan!!
